Abdominal breathing is the most natural and efficient way to breathe. When we get overworked and stressed, or have bad posture or lack of exercise then we develop bad breathing habits like shallow chest breathing. Its all about using the diaphragm correctly!
Sitting up or better still lie down and try this practice:
- Breath in through the nose and let… the abdomen and naval rise,
- Breath out and let the abdomen contract and relax.
- Repeat for 3 minutes.
Note: try to isolate movement in the abdomen i.e. try not to let the ribs/chest move during abdominal breathing.
Through this practice you can reverse the effects of stress by inducing the “rest & digest” component of the nervous system. If you do this daily you will see great improvement in your state of physical and mental wellbeing.
